For any type of burn,
immediate treatment, is essential to speedy
healing and recovery.
- Treatment
- After at-home first-aid treatment has
been applied to minor burns, any
persisting pain may be alleviated with
aspirin. If your burn requires medical
treatment, your doctor will cover the
area with an antibacterial dressing or
leave it exposed (to promote healing) Avoid breaking intact
blisters; exposure of the tissue
underneath increases your likelihood of
infection. However, once blisters
have broken on their own, your doctor
will likely trim away the dead skin to
reduce the chances of infection.
Call a Doctor If:
- You have a large first-degree burn.
- You have a second-degree burn on your hands,
face, feet, groin, buttocks or a major joint, or
the burn is larger than 3 inches in diameter; or
you have a third- or fourth-degree burn. You may
suffer from shock, low blood pressure , and rapid
pulse, and the area could
become infected.
